What Are Capital Credits?
Unlike for-profit companies, cooperative member-owners are allocated patronage capital to an account in their name based upon the member’s share of the Cooperative’s margins for a year in which revenues exceed expenses. The amount a member is allocated is proportionate to the amount of energy used by that member during the same year. Capital credits are retired and refunded to members, (based on a 20 year rotation cycle), as approved by the Edgecombe-Martin County EMC Board of Directors.
Even if you are no longer a member of the Cooperative, the allocated/retired capital credits may remain in your account. Check out the link below for a full listing of members/past members whose retired capital credit checks have been returned to Edgecombe-Martin County EMC. If your name is listed, please contact the co-op to verify ownership & provide your current mailing address. If you believe you know someone listed here, the co-op would greatly appreciate you having them contact us. For more info call 1-800-445-6486 to speak to a Member Service Representative to update accounts.
Always be sure to update your mailing address with Edgecombe-Martin County EMC so we can send future capital credit checks to the correct address.
